Popular Video Section Update

Filed under: Video, Google Video, iFilm, rss, TheVideoAwards, Grouper — Dave @ 8:12 pm

One additional update for the popular video section.  We’ve updated the rss feed for both Grouper and iFilm to pull a more frequently changing popular list.  Unfortunately, Google is still only providing RSS for the top 100 which rarely changes.

New Design!

Well we finally got around updating our design. Not much change in the way of interaction, we more just made it easier to look at :) . We still support all of your favorite video providers and we’re still adding them. We hope you enjoy this one alittle more.

Thanks, and keep the feedback coming in.

Google Video New Launch and the Lack of RSS!

Filed under: Video, YouTube, Google Video, rss, TheVideoAwards, Mashable — info @ 12:10 am

Mashable writes about the new European launch.

Google Video still lags YouTube for a number of reasons, but I think the core problem was its early failure to tap into the prime demographic: the 15-25 year old MySpace user.
Another reason i’d like to point out is that YouTube provides far superior RSS feeds than Google and for that matter any other provider I’ve encountered.  And in our opinion, this is so critical in these types of sites.  We’re planning more features for TVA but it makes it difficult when so many providers do not provide RSS Feeds.  GO YOUTUBE!

New Feature: Popular Videos

Filed under: YouTube, Google Video, iFilm, videos, TheVideoAwards — info @ 5:38 am

Here’s a great new feature of the system.  We’ve taken popular feeds from YouTube, Google Video and iFilm and have created a page which just shows those videos.  So with that addition, the site has two major sections.

  • User Submitted Videos - this is the same as it’s always been.  Users are able to submit videos which they find from across the net to vote and comment on them.
  • Popular Videos - again, this is not generated by TVA users directly submitting videos to the site, rather we are just showing the popular videos which people have voted for on their sites.

The great thing about this is not only are you able to see videos from across multiple providers but now you can see what the users of their site feel is popular as well.  So in one page you’re viewing, popular videos from iFilm, YouTube and Google!

Now, why are we only supporting 3 sites, when users can submit from many others?  Well those are the only 3 which provide a popular video feed (isn’t that amazing???).  If you know of one we missed let us know!

New Category and Google Video Update

Filed under: Video, Google Video — info @ 5:49 am

Two things to note.

1. We’ve added another category called music videos to the list. We’ll refine these lists as necessary.

2. It seems that Google Video has changed how they are providing embed tags to share their videos. They used to require a weird sigh key (some encryption key) which made it extremely difficult to automate any type of posting. But now it looks like they have decided to move away from that and only use the docId to embed. That’s great news!

I’ll also leave you with some Google Video sites for your enjoyment

Welcome

Filed under: Video, YouTube, Vimeo, Google Video, vSocial, JumpCut — info @ 12:47 am

Welcome to the official blog for TheVideoAwards.com website.

The Video Awards site is a forum for you to submit your videos for review and voting. The feature which sets it apart from everything is it has the ability to display videos from a multitude of sites. Sites including Google Video, YouTube Video, Jumpcut, Vimeo, vSocial… and we're adding more everyday!

Don't be shy, take a look and post your video or just enjoy some others. We've started out with some initial categories but plan on expanding as needed.

There's been quite a bit of lessons learned while building this site. One of them being if you plan on getting work done, don't watch any videos!

You've found the official blog for The Video Awards video community site.
