He was obviously just playing, he could have bit her leg in half if he wanted too, he probably didn't even realize he was bitting into her skin. I hate how they put it. Its the humans fault for trying to play with the whale, when it plays back we get all pissed.

It actually looked worse than it is. The whale (which was later euthenised) was just playing. It didn't bite her, if it did, she would need a helluva lot more than just a 100 stitches.

Seeing as the orca just pushed her in front of him makes me believe he thought she was a ball or something like that to play with, and he wanted to keep it when they tried to pull her up. She looked like barely having a scratch, besides perhaps some minor wounds from gentle bite mark to keep hold to her. This one would've easily bitten her leg off if *that* was what he wanted.

It could have been the panicked movements and fearful screaming that got the whale excited. These are predatory animals. Maybe it brought out something instinctual that matched the patterns of struggling prey.

Either that or the whale caught one of those cases of jungle fever that you just can't help. I feel ya brotha...

The whale was not attacking. Had it wished, the girl would have died instantly. I think the whale got confused and was trying to orchestrate a different routine that it had previously been taught.

Depending on the theme park, these orcas are trained by various methods. Unless they didn't put much thought into this , the whale could have been confused by a new "object" in the pool. Trainers usually wear wet suits and have more experience in control. The whale maybe thought it was a new toy. Any website that is critical of whale shows and training expounds on the dangers of using these large dolphins for show. Taken out of their instinctive environment and placed in a tank for profit, these whales can turn on trainers and the unsuspecting, as seen here. Someone was not thinking when they came up with this idea.

the reaction that this whale had to this publicity stunt was nothing but instinct. in the wild, this reaction is to cause a seal who is trying to attach itself, or use it as a resting spot, to get off of him. these whales should NOT be ridden, nor held in captivity(anything provided by humans is too small). Everyone should know that after this incident, the Innocent Orca was euthanized.

Many people don't realize that mammals are highly sexual creatures and whales and dolphins are no different. It seemed to me that the orca was sexually frustrated. Often times male whales and dolphins rub females aggressivley to stimluate a sexual response, I am willing to bet any amount of money that male orca had a hard from hell.

This whale was probably euthanized , which i sad because it was only playing. I noticed some people above said they should set all the dolphins free . Well its not that simple. After being in captivity dolphins start to lose there natural instincts. This orca seemed to be under alot of stress. The tank is like maybe twice his size. He can't function right.

Wow I cant believe they killed the whale just because of this video tape. Whos decision was this? The whale didn't even attack or kill the lady. If a killer whale can kill a great white, which has happened, google it. I'm sure it can destroy the woman into pieces. The whale didn't think she was prey or else it would have thrown her up in the air and played with her as if she were prey. That's what killer whales do with seals. They play with their food by throwing it way up in the air. The whale didn't want to attack nor kill the woman. Whoever had the right to make this decision i'm sorry to say is a dumbass!!!!!!!

a few people have drawn the killer part of kiler whale to attention, killer whales are called killer whales because of their habit of killing whales. Killer whale attacks on humans are extremely rare and have never happened in the wild, so the proposition of riding a captive ORCA is not really that stupid.

I havent even seen the video but I have loved killer whales since i was a little girl. After reading all the responces to the video its obvious to me that the human was in wrong,and I am DISGUSTED to hear the the poor orca was killed. Fuck that bitch she should have really pushed to keep that whale alive, her word would have ment alot. Killer Whales are normally genital when trainers work with them over a long period. This stupid bitch did not have any training at all. It’s not surprising that the whale tossed her off its back. Anyone stop to think that maybe that day the whale didn’t want her on its back! These are very powerful animals if it wanted to kill her she would have been seal meat. I'd have to agree in some level with nr.7. whales and other wild animals are not supposed to be held captured. Im about to get an edd. in killerwhales. if it wanted her dead she would have been dead. maybe its the killerwhales way to say "let me out to my friends and family" and yeah they do have friends and family, and also they are not evil at all, ive been diving with wild killerwhales and never been hurt. I cant believe how many people keep implying killer whales are in any way especially dangerous (And that there fish, aswell). Orca attacks are extremely rare. They can be very friendly. Think of a child playing with a millipede. The child affectionately plays with the millipede, carrying it across the house and wacthing it crawl across indoor surfaces. He/she picks it up, and suddenly, half its body is crushed and falls off. Now think of this (once again, I say) RARE incident, and imply my analogy. The acident is quite understandable. Considering whales present some of the earths highest I.Q.s, and are one of under 10 species with a social concience, it probably would have felt quite guilty if it had actually killed the man (Considering that it knows the trainer). Except for the potential theory that the whale believed that the girl was a play toy, since I am lead to believe that she had no- or little previous experiance with the whale.
